small things considered

December 16, 2010 update

If you missed the silent auction last night, come by and visit! We still have small works available from all the artists shown we have shown here at 571 Projects over the past year - for under $1,000 - until Saturday.

571 Projects' first-ever silent auction was a great success, and happy collectors will be taking home their new acquisitions. The exhibition remains on view through this Saturday, December 18, and there is still work available by all previously exhibited artists. Whether you would like to take in a retrospective of sorts and get an overview of the exhibitions program, or if you are interested in collecting, we will be delighted to see you. Featuring work by artists Lindsey Brown, Leah Durner, Liz Engelhardt, Sally Gil, Jan Gilbert, Jimmie James and Jaclyn Mednicov, this is a fun and exciting opportunity for aspiring and veteran collectors to acquire work.

A charitable donation will be made in support of The Lower East Side Girls Club.

A charitable donation will be made in support of
the Lower East Side Girls Club’s arts programming.

small things considered showcases fragments that allude to a larger whole, or diminuitive contained universes. These works allow the viewer to gain focused and intimate insights into each artist’s finer gestures.
Highlighting the synergy between mid-career and emerging artists, all those in this accomplished group
demonstrate their own unique evolution and approach. Unexpected and rich dialogues are created between
Jimmie James’ vibrant abstract landscapes and Liz Engelhardt’s nearly monochromatic plein air pieces, Jan
Gilbert’s photo transfer images from New Orleans’ French Quarter and Jaclyn Mednicov’s delicate drawings
of nature overrunning the urban environment. Leah Durner’s colorful and gestural gouache on paper
respond to Lindsey Brown’s deliberate sketches including found objects and Sally Gil’s playful collages.
Collectively, the energy will make for an impressive show of small but substantive original work.

small things considered will be on view December 14, 2010 through December 18, 2010 at 571 Projects,
551 West 21st Street, Unit 204A, New York City, 10011.

571 Projects is open Tuesday – Saturday, 12 – 6pm,
and by appointment.

571 Projects seeks to bridge the gap between dynamic emerging & mid-career artists and engaged collectors, both those beginning to collect and those looking for fresh talent. To support the work of significant artists, we provide a forum through tightly curated, solo exhibitions that showcase a single body of work. Founded in by Sophie Bréchu-West, an alumna of Christie’s Master’s in Contemporary Art and Connoisseurship program, 571 Projects opened its doors in October 2009.
